2022 NFL Draft Top QB Prospects (1-5)

1. Kenny Pickett Pittsburgh redshirt senior 6' 3", 217 pounds

-had a breakout 2021 season completing over 67% of his passes for 4,319 yards and 42 TD’s while only throwing 7 INT’s in 497 attempts leading the Panthers to an 11 win season and an ACC Championship, wasn’t used much as a running threat in Mark Whipple’s offense but showed the ability to pick up yards with his legs, possesses all the intangible skills- competitiveness, leadership, toughness, doesn’t display elite arm strength and much has been made of his small hand size

2. Matt Corral Mississippi redshirt junior, 6’, 205 pounds

-completed just under 68% of his passes for 3,349 yards and 20 TD’s for the Rebels offense in 2021, also cut his INT from 14 in 2020 to just 5 last year, has NFL arm strength and is very good scrambler that can make plays with his legs rushing for 195 yards in a 31-26 win at Tennessee, great leader who loves the game of football as shown in his decision to play in the bowl game while other top QB prospects opted out, at 6’ 205 pounds Corral doesn’t fit the mold of a prototypical NFL quarterback

3. Carson Strong Nevada redshirt junior, 6' 3", 226 pounds

-drop back pure pocket passer who threw for 9,368 yards and 74 TD’s in three seasons as Nevada’s starting quarterback while leading the Wolf Pack to 3 straight bowl appearances, has the size and arm strength of an NFL QB but is not much of a threat with his legs which attributed to being sacked 45 times in 2021, did not face elite defenses week in and week out playing in the Mountain West Conference, is a throwback QB coming into a league that is shifting toward more RPO schemes

4. Sam Howell North Carolina junior, 6' 1", 218 pounds

-was outstanding in 2020 completing 68 % of his passes for 3,586 yards and 30 TD’s, however statistically regressed significantly in 2021 with drop offs in completion percentage, yards, and TD passes, also threw 9 INT’s including 3 in the season opening loss to Virginia Tech which set the tone for the season, the Tar Heels lost a ton of offensive talent to the Draft last year which certainly attributed to the drop off, strong arm with great athleticism and ability to leave the pocket rushing for over 800 yards last season, listed at 6’1” Howell will be at a disadvantage if asked to operate under center

5. Malik Willis Liberty redshirt senior, 6' 1", 219 pounds

-passed for over 5,122 yards and rushed for 1,822 yards in 2 seasons at Liberty and had 74 total TD’s, has superior athletic ability and a cannon for an arm however he had 3 INTs in 3 games in 2021 and 4 total the past 2 seasons, the Flames offense failed to reach 20 points in a three straight losses to Ole Miss, Louisiana, and Army in November and average 4.5 points less than in 2020, Willis still needs a lot more time to develop as a pocket passer
