1. Conference USA shines- posted 2 upset victories (Charlotte, UTSA) over power five schools and should have been 3 if not for a blown 20 point 4th quarter lead by Louisiana Tech, Rice only trailed Arkansas by a touchdown late in the 4th quarter as well, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, and Western Kentucky all put up impressive wins
2. Will Healy Coach on the Rise- Charlotte upset Duke in its home opener getting its first victory over a power program in school history, Healy did a remarkable job in a short time turning around Austin Peay and took the 49ers to their first ever bowl in 2019, Healy at 36 is one of college football rising coaches and someone power schools should keep an eye on in years to come
3. Pac 12 North stumbles- its important not to overreact after 1 week but the division went 1-5 in Week 1 and should have been 0-6 if not for a comeback win by Oregon, both Washington and Washington State were double digit favorites, Stanford's offense was lifeless in a 24-7 defeat against a Wyatt Hubert-less Kansas State defense
