3 CFB Week 5 Takeaways

1. Pac 12 Playoff Drought Continues- Oregon’s self-destruction late in the 4th quarter against Stanford all but ended the conference’s hopes of getting a team in the CFB for the first time since 2016, even if Arizona State or Oregon win out they won’t be chosen over a 1 loss Georgia or Alabama, the Pac 12 desperately needs USC to hire the right coach to bring the program back to national prominence

2. Sonny Dykes Underappreciated- for the second time in 3 years Dykes has SMU off to a 5-0 start, he has also for the second time brought in a Big 12 transfer at QB and resurrected their career this time former Oklahoma QB Tanner Mordecai who has thrown for 1,569 yards and 24 touchdowns in just 5 games, the Mustangs have beaten TCU twice in Fort Worth in 3 seasons and can make the case of being the third best football program in the state since 2019 behind only Texas and Texas AM
