3 CFB Week 8 Takeaways

1. Upset City- Week 8 started off with Appalachian State ending Coastal Carolina’s 18 game regular season win streak, four top 20 teams were beat by unranked opponents, three 20 point plus underdogs (Rice, Illinois, New Mexico) all came away victorious on a wild Saturday of football

2. Buyer’s Remorse- Indiana gave HC Tom Allen a new 7 year contract that included a 1 million dollar raise per year this past offseason, so far however the Hoosiers have been one of college football’s biggest disappointments of 2021 dropping to 0-4 in Big 10 play after suffering an embarrassing 54-7 loss at home to Ohio State, yes QB Michael Penix Jr. has missed time with injuries but the defense that finished 19th in points allowed in 2020 has fallen off significantly surrendering 539 total yards to the Buckeyes Saturday

3. Top Performers-

WR Malik Williams Appalachian State- caught 10 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown in the Mountaineers' 30-27 upset over undefeated Coastal Carolina

RB Chase Brown Illinois- rushed for 223 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries in a 20-18 9 OT upset win against a Penn State defense that ranked 26th nationally in rushed yards allowed coming into the game

QB Sam Hartman Wake Forest- completed 23 of 29 passes for 458 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 70-56 shootout win at Army keeping the Demon Deacons undefeated season alive
