CFB Week 7 Buy/Sell

Buy-
San Jose State- after a banner 7-1 MWC Championship season in 2020 the Spartans have taken a step back so far this year sitting at 3-3 overall and coming off an 18 point loss at Colorado State, Senior QB Nick Starkel who has missed the past two games with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder hasn’t replicated his 2020 success completing only 50% of his passes and throwing 5 INT’s in just four games of action, Brett Brennan is one of college football’s rising young coaches and has done a tremendous job building a winning program in his four years there, look for a healthy Starkel to return to form and lead the team to a strong second half reaching bowl eligibility once again
Sell-
UCLA- the Bruins were 1 of 2 Pac 12 teams I was buying to start the season, Dorian Thompson-Robinson simply hasn’t performed to the level I thought he would, his completion percentage has dropped from 65.2 last to 57.1 in 2021, the Senior QB completed only 8-19 passes with an INT against winless Arizona last week, Arizona State is clearly the team to beat in the South and Chip Kelly’s team will have to fend off an improving Utah team to secure 2nd place
Hold-
Purdue- the Boilermakers were one of the 2 teams in the Big 10 I was buying coming off a 2-4 Covid-shortened 2020 season, the team opened the season with impressive wins against Oregon State and UConn but have cooled off losing 2 of their last 3, quarterbacks Jack Plummer and Aidan O’Connell have split time with neither establishing themselves as a clear number 1, the defense is much improved cutting their points allowed from 29.8 last year to 15.4 this year, coming off a bye this week the schedule features plenty of opportunities for quality wins and if someone can emerge at QB this is a solid bowl team under 5th year HC Jeff Brohm
